Location: Clifton, Texas
Price: $5.5 million
Reached via a drawbridge that provides a safe and beautiful passageway over heart-shaped moats, Parsons Castle looks as though it were torn from the pages of a storybook.
Made of snow-white stone and topped with a red-tile roof, the castle—which serves as a private residence and as a commercial events space—is perched atop cliffs that overlook Lake Whitney, about 90 minutes south of Dallas.
The castle, which the sellers spent a decade building, “is a signature structure of the lake,” said Eric Hacker of Hacker Property Group at Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty, who listed the property in November. “There’s nothing else like it in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. When you cross the bridge, you can’t miss it; it’s incredible.”

The sellers, who live at the castle full time, host about a dozen weddings a year, he said, adding the property has investment potential because “it has never been marketed as an events venue, and it wasn’t built to be a business.”
He noted that even before the castle was built, brides and grooms were asking whether they could hold weddings on the property. “That kick started everything,” he said.
It’s an ideal venue for celebrations, he added, because “the castle doesn’t have a heavy, dark feeling. It’s light and bright, and you feel like you’re on top of the water. It’s a breathtaking feeling and view.”

Neighborhood Notes
Clifton, which is 30 minutes from Waco, an hour from Fort Worth and two hours from Austin, is a small town with a population that barely tops 3,400 and a downtown area that has diners, restaurants and shops.
“It’s a combination of full-time residences and vacation homes,” Hacker said. “It’s a nice little getaway that’s still close enough to the big city.”
