TOKYO -- Panasonic Energy, a supplier to Tesla, said Wednesday it is dropping its plan to build a battery factory in Oklahoma after "careful deliberations," without going into specifics. The plant would have been its third in North America.
A major maker of batteries for electric vehicles, the subsidiary of Panasonic Holdings signed an agreement with the state government in April outlining an incentive package that it would have received if it had decided to go through with the plan. Local officials said at the time that total investment for the factory would amount to $5 billion.
