WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. — Local fans of The Cheesecake Factory can now dig into the chain’s more than 250 menu items, including over 30 decadent cheesecakes and desserts, closer to home.
After months of anticipation, the full-service restaurant chain’s first Lehigh Valley location opened Tuesday at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Township.
The new restaurant features nearly 9,000 square feet of indoor dining, with seating for 227 customers, along with a 1,200-square-foot covered patio, offering seating for an additional 60 customers.
It’s operating near the mall’s main entrance, in part of the space that Barnes & Noble had previously solely occupied.
The restaurant’s main entrance faces the mall’s outdoor lifestyle center, and there is also an entrance in the mall.
“We’re so excited,” said Alethea Rowe, The Cheesecake Factory’s senior director of public relations.
“We made it just in time for the holidays, and we can’t wait to welcome residents of the Lehigh Valley this season and year-round. We know there’s much excitement in the community, too, as people have been peeking into the windows and trying to open the doors.”
The Cheesecake Factory, which dubs itself “a leader in experiential dining,” features a menu of more than 250 dishes – freshly prepared and made from scratch daily – along with over 30 cheesecakes and desserts.
Diners can enjoy small plates and snacks such as chicken taquitos, cheeseburger spring rolls and Korean fried cauliflower; appetizers such as avocado eggrolls, Thai lettuce wraps with chicken and pretzel bites with cheddar cheese fondue; sandwiches such as a Cuban, grilled chicken and avocado club and Renee’s chicken-almond salad sandwich; pastas such as cacio e pepe pasta, chili-crunch shrimp pasta and spicy rigatoni vodka; steaks such as grilled rib-eye, filet mignon and carne asada; and fish and seafood selections such as Jamaican black pepper shrimp, seared ahi tuna and miso salmon.
About two dozen Cheesecake Factory specialties include chicken and biscuits, chicken parmesan “pizza style,” fish tacos, shepherd’s pie, Thai coconut-lime chicken, truffle-honey chicken and “Famous Factory Meatloaf.”
Other menu highlights include salads, flatbread pizzas and “Glamburgers,” made with certified angus beef.
“Popular main courses include our chicken madeira, miso salmon and cajun jambalaya pasta,” Rowe said.
“But we really have a little bit of something for everyone. I tend to enjoy salads. So, I love our barbecue ranch chicken salad, which has some fried onion strings on top. The fried macaroni and cheese and avocado eggrolls are also favorites of mine.”
For individuals with a sweet tooth, the restaurant chain offers a wide array of cheesecakes and specialty desserts, including chocolate tower truffle cake, dulce de leche caramel cheesecake, mango Key lime cheesecake, Hershey’s chocolate bar cheesecake, Cinnabon cinnamon swirl cheesecake, coconut cream pie cheesecake, tiramisu cheesecake, fresh banana cream cheesecake, pineapple upside-down cheesecake, strawberry shortcake and warm apple crisp, among others.
The cheesecakes, which can be purchased by the slice or as a whole cheesecake, are the only menu items not made in the restaurants, Rowe said.
The sweet treats are made in The Cheesecake Factory’s two baking production facilities in Calabasas Hills, California, and Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
On National Cheesecake Day, July 30, The Cheesecake Factory introduced one of its newest flavors, Cookie Dough Lover’s Cheesecake with Pecans.
For every slice of Cookie Dough Lover’s Cheesecake with Pecans sold through July 29, 2024, The Cheesecake Factory will donate 25 cents to Feeding America, a national hunger-relief organization dedicated to ending hunger through a network of food banks and meal programs.
“There are also seasonal varieties,” Rowe said. “Right now, we have our Peppermint Stick Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake, featuring a mint chocolate brownie crust. It’s brand new this year and out-of-this-world delicious.”
The Cheesecake Factory traces its origins back to the 1940s, when Evelyn Overton found a recipe in her local Detroit newspaper that inspired her Original Cheesecake, according to the restaurant’s website.
The recipe was a huge hit, and Overton decided to open a small bakery in her basement kitchen and offer cakes to local restaurants, while raising her children, David and Renee.
In 1972, Evelyn and her husband, Oscar, relocated to Los Angeles and opened The Cheesecake Factory Bakery, supplying her cheesecakes to restaurants throughout L.A.
“In 1978, David was inspired to open a restaurant in Beverly Hills with his mother’s cakes showcased in the lobby and a made-from-scratch menu big enough to offer ‘something for everyone,’” the online description continues. “The restaurant was an immediate hit on opening day with a line out the door that many say has never stopped.”
Today, more than 40,000 staff and managers provide upscale-casual dining experiences at roughly 250 locations worldwide, including 215 in the United States and more than 30 in other countries.
Regional locations can be found at King of Prussia Mall in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County; Willow Grove Mall in Abington Township, Montgomery County; Center City Philadelphia; and Bridgewater, N.J.
“We didn’t want people from the Lehigh Valley to have to drive an hour to get their fix!” Rowe said. “So, this is a much more convenient option for local residents.”
The Whitehall restaurant features modern decor, including glass pendant lighting, white tile flooring and colorful, hand-painted wall murals.
Glass windows offer a glimpse into the restaurant’s kitchen.
"We really love the windows because customers can see the magic that goes into creating their dishes," Rowe said.
The Whitehall location also features a 10-seat full bar, serving a wide array beers, wines and cocktails.
Popular specialty drinks include a mai tai, Ultimate Margarita and J.W.’s Pink Lemonade (Absolut Citron, black raspberry liqueur and signature lemonade), Rowe said.
Happy hour, 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday in the bar area, features a variety of specials, including $7.95 select specialty cocktails, well drinks and wines by the glass; $4.95 select draft beer; $3.95 select bottled beer; $8.50 select small plates; and $9.50 select appetizers.
“We have a really great happy hour,” Rowe said.
“A lot of places do smaller portions on their happy hour menus, but we offer full-size items at really great prices. And we offer a lot of our most popular dishes, including our avocado eggrolls, Factory Nachos and fried macaroni and cheese.”
The Whitehall location is open 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays.
On Saturdays and Sundays, brunch dishes are offered (in addition to the regular full menu) until 2 p.m., Rowe said.
Brunch offerings include breakfast burritos, fried chicken and waffles, lemon-ricotta pancakes, green chilaquiles and eggs, jambalaya hash and eggs and more.
“We have some really amazing brunch selections, including cinnamon roll pancakes, bruleed French toast and eggs Benedict,” Rowe said.
Dining reservations can made through The Cheesecake Factory’s website, thecheesecakefactory.com.
Customers can sit at the bar stools along with the high-top tables in the bar area on a first-come, first-serve basis, Rowe said.
Additionally, takeout, curbside pickup and delivery through DoorDash are available.
