Jets cut player to fit Aaron Rodgers, who isn’t returning this year - NJ.com

The Jets announced that they are activating Aaron Rodgers to their 53-man roster for the remainder of the season. But, as the team confirmed Wednesday, Rodgers will not play in the final three games of the year.

The Jets decided to activate the four-time NFL MVP, who has been quickly recovering from the torn Achilles since Week 1, because his 21-day practice window was coming to a close. And now that Rodgers is on the team, it means someone had to go.

As a corresponding move to make room for Rodgers, the Jets waived fullback Nick Bawden.

Bawden has made $774,118 of his $940k salary, so he loses about $135k with the move. If he’s picked up, he’ll earn some of that back on the practice squad.

The 27-year-old has played in every game for the Jets this year and actually has one of the team’s 13 offensive touchdowns this season, which came during the Week 3 loss to New England. Also interesting: Bawden played more than 25% of the snaps in just two games this season (at Denver and vs Houston) which were also the only two games in which the Jets scored more than 30 points.

The 40-year-old Rodgers, who underwent surgery on Sept. 13, has recovered quickly and practiced six times in the last three weeks.
