Purdue Basketball Recruiting: Myles Colvin, A Perfect Fit for 2023 - Hammer and Rails

bontereng.blogspot.com

Myles Colvin is a legacy child. Son to former Purdue and NFL Standout, Roosevelt Colvin.

His sister, Raven, is coming to Purdue to play volleyball for Coach Shondell.

Purdue was Myles’ first major offer, Coach Painter was all over him - the moment he could travel and see these kids play again in early June.

While Myles coming to Purdue just makes sense for the 2023 class, it also would be the perfect fit.

Coach Painter 2022 class has focused on Shooters - Braden Smith, Camden Heide, and Fletcher Loyer can fill it up from the outside, while also being great playmakers.

What the 2022 class lacks, is a straight up athlete and wing defender, that is Myles - while he can also shoot.

For 2023, you will see Coach Painter focus on wing defense and athleticism.

By the 2023-2024 season, which seems FOREVER away. Jaden Ivey, Brandon Newman and Mason Gillis will be seniors - If I was a betting man, one of those guys will be in the NBA by that point already.

Those three listed above, are all + perimeter defenders and players that can use their athleticism to get to the rim.

The 2021 class, the incoming freshmen, will be juniors at that point, and was focused on forwards, as previously stated the 2022 class is shooter.

This is why Myles is the perfect candidate to fill the role of a wing defender that can get to the bucket and shoot the ball when the current sophomore class is headed out.

The 6-5 Shooting Guard has a 6-9 Wingspan, as a to be Junior in High School, he also very strong, weighing in at 190 pounds already.

Myles is currently unranked, but by the end of the summer, don’t be surprised to see him as a 3 star, fringe 4 star. Then, by the time he is a senior in high school, the 2022-2023 season he will be a 4 star.

To me, his game is similar at this time to beloved former Boilermaker Raphael Davis. Ray, who has stayed very involved with Purdue, was long and lanky in High School, could get to the rim and shoot it a bit.

Where I see Myles ahead of him at, to this point is the strength factor and that Myles is a bit more explosive.

All of these things make him perfect for Matt Painter’s 2023 class, one which will be very important, as at the conclusion of that 2023-2024 season, there will be some holes to fill, with that great, current sophomore class that we have.
