Millard South 2022 LB/ATH Gage Stenger verbally committed to Kansas State on Saturday via Twitter.

According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-2, 197-pound Stenger is Kansas State’s seventh known commit in its 2022 class. He joins another player near the Omaha area who recently committed to the Wildcats — Lewis Central (Council Bluffs, Iowa) tight end Brayden Loftin, who came to Lewis Central from Omaha Burke.

After a stellar workout in front of Kansas State coaches in Manhattan, Kan., including head coach Chris Klieman, Stenger was extended an offer from the Wildcats about a week later on June 20. Stenger also owns offers from Wyoming, South Dakota State, Illinois State and North Dakota.

“The way I felt with the coaching staff and the way I felt about the program on the whole level, everything felt like it was the right fit for me,” Stenger said of why he committed to Kansas State.

Stenger called Wildcats’ linebackers coach Steve Stanard earlier in the week to let him know the news. Stanard wanted Stenger to let Klieman know he picked Kansas State in person on an unofficial visit on Saturday.

“Most of my family was there and it was just a special moment for everybody,” Stenger said of Saturday’s visit.

After getting food at Arby’s in Manhattan, it was time to meet with Klieman to tell him the news.

“As he (Klieman) was talking about his rules and expectations about everything, I could tell that it’s really similar to what the rules are in my house, and that made it really feel like a family vibe,” Stenger said. “I just knew I wanted to play for him.”

Stenger said Klieman mentioned simple rules like contributing to community service. About how the team wants to give back to the community that gives back to the athletic program in Manhattan.

“He also mentioned things like drugs and alcohol, and how he doesn’t condone any of those, and I really liked that,” Stenger said of the meeting.

Stenger, who is projected to play the Sam linebacker position, knew that Kansas State was the place for him after attending a camp there a couple weekends ago.

“I just wanted to get down there and confirm that it’s the place where I want to go,” he said. “And now everything, I just feel so much more relaxed and I’m ready to go and get going with my football season.”

As a junior last fall, Stenger ranked third on Millard South’s defense in tackles with 51 and had one interception. Offensively, he racked up 793 total yards, catching 21 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns.

Stenger also saw time at quarterback for the Patriots, where he completed 65 percent of his passes (29 of 44) for 417 yards and two scores while rushing for 161 yards and one touchdown.
