Detroit Lions’ Quintez Cephus is the forgotten wide receiver. Fantasy football managers all over could be missing out on him if they need a rookie to anchor their roster. In every fantasy football draft, there is a time where managers begin to drift off into other thoughts or activities.
The last three rounds seem to be when this problem occurs. Detroit Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus became my random pick of the 2020 dynasty rookie draft; a draft choice based on name alone locked him into my roster.
The Detroit Lions drafted Quintez Cephus in the fifth round of their rookie draft a year prior. Detroit prayed he would evolve into another Kenny Golladay. Not quite.
Cephus played in 13 games, catching 20 passes for 349 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, judging a pass catcher’s season with seeing less than 40 targets is unfair. Cephus did not perform well because of the combustion of the organization around him.
How can Detroit Lions receiver Quintez Cephus break into a consistent starting role?

The Lions lost their top two wide receivers to free agency in the offseason. They replaced them with two players who have been more familiar with the sidelines than the end zone over the past two seasons. Cephus could not be in a better situation.
Golladay and Jones, along with departing WR Danny Amendola, accumulated 216 targets in 2020. That is around three-quarters of the entire offense totally up for grabs this season.
As I mentioned above, the Lions’ newest additions to the roster have not spent much of the time on the field in the past few seasons.
Breshad Perriman has failed to reach his full potential, only highlight WR1 production in just three games out of a possible 32. Perriman scored only one touchdown more than Cephus; that says a lot.
Tyrell Williams signed with the Raiders to be the true number one to Derek Carr, but Nelson Agholor overshadowed him with his ability to find the end zone. Cephus saw less than 10 targets than Williams in 2020, finishing with over 250 yards less too. That is not because of Cephus; It is because of the pieces surrounding him.
Speaking of health, the current Lions receiving core has not had the best luck staying off the injury report. Breshad Perriman has started 22 of a possible 80 games in his four years in the league; Tyrell Williams has started in 49 of a possible 64.

A new general manager, head coach, and quarterback gives Cephus a leg up heading into this season. The transactions benefit Cephus immensely, without anyone realizing it. Well, everyone except me.
Jared Goff walks into an organization that believes in him. A feeling similar to one a draft pick would feel after hanging up a life-changing phone call.
Goff has shown his value and production while enhancing the performance of those around him. Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp were no superstars before Goff came in. Neither are Perriman and Williams. It’s open season.
While most NFL analysts and personalities believe Amon-Ra St. Brown has the golden opportunity to sneak into the third spot on the depth chart, I disagree. He will see targets, just not enough to make a significant impact.
Cephus proved a season ago that he has the ability to make big plays on the field, but will he bite off a knee cap? Coach Campbell should sure hope so.
