At Providence Fit Body Boot Camp our job is to help people transform their lives and live a fit and healthy lifestyle. We pride ourselves in helping hundreds of people lose thousands of pounds over the past 6+ years, and transforming not only their bodies, but their mindsets, so the results will last a lifetime.

We try to help everyone, however, not everyone is destined for a lifetime of success in any area of their lives, let alone a fitness lifestyle.

I was listening to a podcast, and they were interviewing a person from the Coast Guard. This gentleman’s specialty was rescuing people at sea. The interviewer asked about rescuing a large number of people from a capsized vessel. The question was: “When there are a lot of lives at stake, which ones do you rescue first? How do you make that decision?”

The Coast guard officer answered, “The ones that swim towards the helicopter get rescued first”. He went on to say that if you don’t at least make an attempt to save your own life, it makes it harder for someone else to save you.

That resonated deeply with me, because at Providence Fit Body Boot Camp we TRY to help everyone, but we can’t, and it gets frustrating when we see folks fall short at achieving their health and fitness goals.

We know we can help everyone that “Swims toward the helicopter” and is willing to work with us by staying focused when we are not with you, asking for help by reaching out, and having the discipline to get to the gym and get at least 3 workouts in per week.

However, not everyone will do what it takes, and we can’t help you if:

You don’t swim towards the helicopter. Meaning that if you know that you are in trouble, but don’t reach out to us, suffer in silence, or ghost us when we try to contact you. We can’t force you to improve your lifestyle. We can map out a plan, coach you to success, and stay with you throughout your journey, however, we need you to work with us and not against us.

You aren’t in any pain and are content with being unhealthy. Yes, some people are content with being overweight, medicated, and at risk of things like diabetes & heart disease. Mainly it’s because they have lived feeling that way for so long, that they don’t know what feeling fit and energized is all about. Nobody actually says, “I want to be unhealthy”, they just get comfortable and complacent.

Sometimes it takes a scare from the doctor, or a stay in the hospital to get someone to change their ways. When someone experiences enough pain and discomfort, they will usually change their tune, but not until they are faced with the most severe ultimatum.

You like to make excuses and blame other people. I’m not a fitness person, I don’t have time, I can’t afford a gym, I have bad genetics, my boss makes me stay late, I have kids, etc etc. We have a LOT of members that have families, work every day, and are busy all day, yet they find a way to get it done.

YES, there are some circumstances that will prohibit you from attending our session schedule, but there is always an alternative.  If you want something bad enough, you will find a way, if you don’t, you will find an excuse. And that goes for everything we do in life, not just fitness.

You aren’t willing to suffer and make sacrifices or if you expect things to be easy. The truth is, it’s hard work, discipline and consistency that separates the fit from the unhealthy. It takes commitment and making it part of your life EVERYDAY.

You can’t eat well or workout “sometimes” and expect to make a difference.

Confession: I don’t like to work out. I love the feeling I get after I do, but I hate the process. Lifting weights, doing cardio, sweating and being sore all the time isn’t fun, but it creates a sense of gratification and accomplishment.

I also would rather take the easy way and eat takeout and drive-thru food instead of taking the time to shop and prep my food, but I don’t because I know what the outcome would be if I let myself slide into this trap.

It takes pain and suffering to make a difference. You can’t expect to do it on your own terms and take the easy way out. Discipline, desire and drive are the factors that will take you to where you need to be, and that’s the harsh reality.

You don’t pay attention to details and take shortcuts. Reading labels, drinking the required amount of water, calculating your calories, and being prepared are all major components of achieving success.

No, you don’t need to be a scientist, and there are 4 simple concepts 1. Drink water and stay hydrated, 2. Get 7-8 hours of sleep, 3. Workout for 30 minutes daily, and 4. Eat clean non processed food.

They are simple steps, but they aren’t easy to do without paying attention to details and having structure. Creating new healthy habits takes time and repetitions. You also need to have a plan and follow it. How you do anything is how you do everything, so paying attention to details, and not looking for shortcuts or the “fast” way is essential for your success.

In conclusion, I have learned a lot over the years, and a big & harsh lesson is that you can’t help or please everyone you come in contact with.

That doesn’t mean I will stop trying anytime soon, but please do me a favor if you need help, start swimming towards the helicopter so we can lift you up. Contact me at [email protected] and we will set up your 3 Free workouts and get you going.

Committed to your success,

Coach Matt
