The San Antonio Spurs will more than likely be selecting 12th overall in the upcoming 2021 NBA Draft, and they will surely have lots of quality players to choose from. As the draft draws closer, scouts are beginning to pick up on some previously overlooked or unknown players, and as a result, their draft stocks are seeing a meteoric rise.
Two guys I have in mind right off the bat that fit this description are Alperen Sengun (who we've previously covered) and Vrenz Bleijenbergh. With that in mind, there is one guy that is still being criminally overlooked, and his name is Charles Bassey. The 6-11, 235-pound big man out of Western Kentucky impressed me all year long in his comeback season with the Hilltoppers and he's worth a serious look from the Spurs' front office.
For what Bassey brought to the floor for Western Kentucky, it's still entirely baffling to me that there are several mock drafts and big boards that place him as low as the middle of the second round of the draft. He averaged a double-double, recording 17.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, and a ridiculous 3.1 blocks per game in his 28 games with the Hilltoppers this season. He also recorded a ridiculous 32.6 player efficiency rating, which is tied for second in all of NCAA Division I basketball this past season.
