
Constant rejections made her doubt herself. She shares, “I lacked positivity and confidence. The fight to fit in took a toll on me. I was rejected for having a certain body type and for my fair complexion. In a world that’s obsessed with fair skin, I have experienced the flip side of it because of my unconventional looks. When I started auditioning, I had people telling me to undergo surgeries. I am not against surgeries but I don’t want to be pressurised into anything.”
While she did a couple of web series and films, she was unhappy with the pace of her career and decided to go back to her original name hoping for the tide to turn in her favour. She says, “I went back to being called Anupama last year and within three months, I bagged my first full-fledged TV show (Baalveer). I play a warrior in the show and everything I hated about my looks has helped me in clinching the deal, be it my body or complexion. I am glad that I didn’t give up and had the support of my family that kept me going.”
