Obviously, upgrading the secondary was a focal point for the Cleveland Browns this offseason.

They struggled heavily to contain opposing teams through the air, so they knew it was time to make a change.

Over the offseason, Cleveland added multiple new faces to their secondary.

It’s also worth noting that the Browns will get Greedy Williams and Grant Delpit back after they missed all of the 2020 season due to injury.

Although, Cleveland could still be in the market for another defensive back before the season starts.

Signing Sherman?

One of the bigger names still available on the free agent market is five-time Pro Bowl defensive back Richard Sherman.

The veteran defensive back remains unsigned despite having a solid track record.

His leadership and experience would be an asset to any organization.

The fact Sherman only played five games in 2020 could be part of the reason teams have been hesitant to offer him a contract.

However, he has bounced back before after injuries knocked him down earlier in his career.

Sherman is mostly known for his seven years with the Seattle Seahawks.

Although, he did put together a solid season with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019.

He has 484 tackles, 115 passes defended, and 36 interceptions throughout his career in the NFL.

The future Hall of Famer could certainly offer a ton of knowledge to any organization willing to give him a contract.

Should Cleveland Make An Offer?

Earlier in the offseason this answer might’ve been different, but Cleveland should avoid Sherman.

They already have Denzel Ward, Greg Newsome II, Troy Hill, and Greedy Williams as their main defensive backs.

All of the players mentioned are deserving of playing time next season, so Sherman isn’t a fit right now.

Obviously, Sherman is a fantastic player and could bring a lot to the table, but he wouldn’t have a significant role in Cleveland.

At this point in his career, Sherman is likely looking for a one or two-year deal with a contending team.

However, it’s unlikely that he wants to play a rotational type of role and that would basically be what he’d get with the Browns.

Cleveland is better off developing their young talent than taking a chance on Sherman who is coming off a significant injury.

Sherman is no doubt a Hall of Fame player, but he doesn’t fit on the Browns roster and hopefully he’ll land somewhere before the season begins.
