A Pocasset nonprofit that aims to bring smiles to the faces of hospitalized children has been recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield Massachusetts through its campaign, #WeAreMightyMA.
The Happy Hope Factory was founded in 2011 to help bring some happiness to children who are fighting chronic and life-threatening illnesses in the hospital by creating small care packages that are delivered to those children.
When the pandemic started to spread, team members from the Happy Hope Factory took the initiative to record videos of themselves reading stories so that they could continue to make children smile. They have also reached out to the greater community to ask people to submit their own videos of stories, and are accepting stories read in either English or Spanish.
In May, BCBS highlighted the Happy Hope Factory as part of its #WeAreMightyMA campaign on social media.
BCBS chief marketing officer Kathy Klingler said the idea for the campaign started in the early days of the pandemic.
“A group of us got together and were talking about acts of bravery and kindness,” she said.
The company decided it wanted to spotlight people and organizations who were spreading kindness during a time that has been difficult for so many people. Ms. Klingler said the company has been a longtime supporter of the Happy Hope Organization and wanted to shine a spotlight on it when it started having volunteers read books virtually to children.
“When the pandemic hit, they were one of the first organizations we reached out to,” Ms. Klingler said.
The company has regularly taken to social media to highlight businesses and individuals in the commonwealth that have been making a positive difference. Among others mentioned in the campaign have been New Balance for their work in switching from shoe production to making personal protective equipment, Ellie’s Fund, Boys and Girls Clubs, and the Family Pantry of Cape Cod.
Ms. Klingler said that in addition to the spotlights, BCBS has been helping the community through grants and she encourages any organization in need of help to reach out.
“If there is an organization out there that feels like it needs help, look for information about our foundation and our community relief efforts,” she said.
