MUNCY – A father in Lycoming County is headed to court on charges he broke the left leg and left collarbone of his 2-month-old son in a fit of anger.

Christopher James Warns, 22, of Muncy, did not present any defense at his preliminary hearing Friday.

But, District Judge Jon E. Kemp heard Muncy Detective Raymond O. Kontz III testify that Warns admitted he got frustrated after changing the baby’s diaper.

He confessed he pushed the leg toward the baby’s head while holding the infant in the neck area and he heard a pop, the detective said.

The leg was deformed by the force exerted on it, Kontz testified. The infant was taken to Muncy Valley Hospital and then transferred to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville.

Doctors were able to put the leg back in place through traction, thus avoiding surgery, the officer said. The baby is back home with his mother, he said.

Police were dispatched to Warns residence in the first block of North Washington Street about 2:15 p.m. March 22 for a report of an infant injured when his leg got stuck in the crib railing.

Warns, who is single but lives with his fiancé, told the responding officer he put his son down for a nap and when he checked on him 20 minutes later discovered he had rolled over and gotten his leg stuck in the railing, police said.

Warns later changed his account of the incident and admitted waiting nearly an hour to call 911, the arrest affidavit states.

He is charged with aggravated and simple assault, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering.

Warns, who had been jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail, is now free under supervision and may not have any contact with his son.
