Examining the traits that Kwon Alexander brings to the New York Jets defense

Entering the 2022 offseason, the New York Jets roster was littered with glaring holes.

Credit is due to Jets general manager Joe Douglas, who filled a plethora of those holes; all the way from starting cornerback to backup guard.

With that being said, it was nearly impossible to truly address every need on the Jets roster. The linebacker position was one of the most apparent holes on the roster. Behind C.J. Mosley, the Jets had a bunch of question marks.

The full, member-only Kwon Alexander film breakdown can be found at the bottom of this article (must be a Jets X-Factor member and logged into the site).

Relative to expectations, Quincy Williams played well in 2021, but he was still inconsistent and shouldn’t be relied on to handle a full-time starting role.

A pair of 2021 late-round draft picks in Hamsah Nasirildeen and Jamien Sherwood both proved little to nothing in their rookie years. Nasirildeen ended up not making the 53-man roster and is now on the practice squad.

With nothing more to mention past these names, it was blatantly obvious that linebacker was a need.

Free agency and the draft passed by and the Jets had done nothing to fix this position. But in late July, Douglas finally made a move.

Enter Kwon Alexander, a 27-year-old linebacker who was once known as a plus starter at the beginning of his career with the Buccaneers.

Unfortunately for Alexander, he has battled a few significant injuries, causing him to bounce around. Alexander had stints with the 49ers and Saints before landing with the Jets on a cheap deal for one year and $1.1 million.

But considering the Jets’ lack of depth at linebacker, Alexander is a low-risk, medium-reward type of signing.

Jets fans are wondering what Alexander has left in the tank and where he will fit into the Jets’ defensive plans. In the latest Blewett’s Blitz film review, we answer every question that Jets fans might have about Alexander.

  • What does Kwon Alexander offer the Jets?
  • How does he fit into the Jets defense?
  • Will he start at linebacker?

All of these questions and many more are answered in this edition of Blewett’s Blitz. Plus, Kwon Alexander’s strengths and weaknesses are listed below, as is the full, member-only film breakdown.
