Ben White has yet to train this week and faces a race against time to be fit for Arsenal’s trip to Leicester City on Saturday, with Mikel Arteta revealing that a number of his squad are still struggling with a sickness bug.
White, 23, started Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Leeds United in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday but was withdrawn after complaining of feeling unwell.
Mikel Arteta had not intended for the summer signing to start the game, only for Pablo Mari to pull out of the starting XI with a bug, which has spread to other members of the squad.
Speaking ahead of the match against Leicester, Arteta said: “It was a bit of sickness, tummy aches and stuff like that. Hopefully everyone will be OK.
“(White) hasn’t trained yet so we will have to wait for today, to see how he’s feeling and make the decision then.”
“A few have been unable to train and we also picked up some knocks in the game against Leeds as well, hopefully we will have better news.”
White’s absence from training this week means his place in Arteta’s squad is uncertain — but does not completely rule out his involvement.
Bukayo Saka did not train before Arsenal’s win over Aston Villa and started, while Gabriel Martinelli was a doubt for the draw with Crystal Palace, only to make an appearance from off the bench.
