Portland Garment Factory resumed operations Wednesday at a new location, six months after a fire gutted its previous factory.
The woman-owned textile manufacturing company — which has worked with brands like Nike, Adidas and Olympia Provisions — lost its factory in April when a fire tore through large sections of the building’s exterior. The company paused operations for six months as a result.
Crowdfunding donors raised over $118,000 to buy machinery for the company’s new headquarters, 311 S.E. 97th Ave.
Andrea Cadel, 48, pleaded not guilty July 1 to second-degree arson, reckless burning and first-degree criminal mischief in the blaze, according to court records.

“As we reopen our doors, our team is reinvigorated by the possibilities that the new factory brings,” Britt Howard, CEO and founder, said in a statement. “We’re ready to take on our wildest projects yet.”
Avery Pickard, executive director of the Oregon Economic Development Association, said she sees the company as a “critical anchor” for the state’s economy.
“As a state we need to keep focus on those policies and programs that support great firms making things in Oregon and not take their presence here for granted,” Pickard said.
The company’s work includes making nearly 100,000 masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic and donating thousands of the masks to underserved communities.
