It's pretty much universal. You buy a new (or new-to-you) vehicle, and immediately, the itch to modify consumes you. Easy stuff first: Intake and exhaust. A little more breathing ability, a touch more sound. That's the strategy Ram took with the new 1500 G/T, a trim package that includes the mods you were probably going to do anyway, plus one you probably couldn't pull off without some serious engineering skills.
The new G/T trim packs a factory-installed Mopar cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust, there to help the 5.7-liter mild-hybrid V-8 breathe easier and sound better. That would be easy enough to do at home, but the G/T pack adds some other fancy stuff, like steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a console-mounted gearshift. Previously, the only Ram pickup with a console shifter and paddles has been the ridiculous, lovable Hellcat-powered Ram TRX.
G/T models also get standard Performance Pages, the app that puts a slew of drivetrain gauges, g-meters, and 0-60 and 1/4-mile timers right on the dashboard's infotainment screen. Trucks with this package get a unique "G/T" decal on the rear of the bed, plus bucket seats with the G/T logo embroidered into the headrest, as well as custom metal-finish pedals and all-weather floor mats.
The new G/T package is available on the Ram 1500 Laramie (shown here in red), starting at $55,480; or the 1500 Rebel (shown here in black) starting at $55,375. These two models will start arriving at dealers in the third quarter of 2021.
