Tom Dorwart stretched his love for Philly Pretzel Factory soft pretzels into a franchise opportunity.
On March 18 the Manheim man and is son-in-law, Chad Zunich, are opening one of the snack spots at 233 Hershey Road in South Hanover Township at the Meadows Marketplace shopping complex. Dorwart regularly purchased pretzels at the Pretzel Factory in Lititz.
“It’s easy to sell a product when you are behind it and like it,” Zunich said.
They’ve invested nearly two years on the project, scouting out locations and securing loans. The coronavirus pandemic delayed the opening by several months.
“We really wanted Hershey because of the park. Hopefully concerts come back. It really seemed like a great tourist area,” Zunich said.
Pretzel Factory founding partners Dan DiZio and Len Lehman opened the first shop on Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia. Twenty years later the brand has grown to more than 170 locations.
The stores sell traditional soft pretzels with a dozen dips including mustard, sriracha, nacho cheese and cinnamon along with pretzel wrapped hot dogs and cheesesteaks and party trays and packs.
Customers will each receive one free soft pretzel on opening day.
The shop will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays.
