At the end of the season, Bills general manager Brandon Beane specifically said that he wants to improve his team’s rushing attack ahead of the 2021 season. The GM wants it to complement quarterback Josh Allen moving forward.

Could that improvement come via Clemson running back prospect Travis Etienne? NFL.com thinks it’s possible and the Bills were recently named one of five “fits” for Etienne.

Here’s the breakdown on why Etienne and the Bills could be a good match via analyst Bucky Brooks:

The Josh Allen Show is must-see TV, but the Bills’ offense needs more firepower in the backfield to knock off the heavyweights in the AFC. Etienne is not only more explosive and dynamic than the current running backs on the roster (Devin Singletary and Zack Moss), but he is more likely to thrive as a three-down back in the Bills’ wide-open offense. The prospect is an effective runner in spread formations. His combination of speed, burst and acceleration would pose problems for defenses forced to play with light boxes to account for Allen and Co. in the passing game. Given Etienne’s big-play potential as a pass catcher on screens, swings and check downs, the Bills’ offense could explode with this guy as the RB1.

How Beane plans to improve the Bills’ run game was certainly turned on its head recently. In his original comments when expressing the need for improvement, he said the problem was not Singletary and Moss.

Since then, Beane went on to re-sign Buffalo’s top-two offensive line free agents, Jon Feliciano and Daryl Williams. Evidently the problem was not the blocking, either.

But in brining Williams and Feliciano back, one could speculate that running back might now be higher on the Bills’ list of needs moving forward this offseason.

As referenced, Etienne is certainly a more all-around back as opposed to Singletary and Moss. Etienne is also a prospect that is mostly mocked as a late first-round pick in early 2021 NFL mock drafts. Holding the No. 30 overall pick, Etienne might be right in Buffalo’s wheelhouse when April’s draft rolls around.

The four other teams listed as fits for Etienne were the Jets, Steelers, Dolphins and Falcons.
