State Police units raided a Monterey home Friday and seized dozens of Class M explosives. The homeowner faces multiple charges of illegal possession, manufacture and sale of explosive devices.
The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office announced Saturday that State Police detectives attached to the office, along with troopers assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the State Police Bomb Squad executed a search warrant at the home and found a manufacturing operation with components to make explosive devices.
According to the federal Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives website, Class M explosives fall under the term “silver salute.” Most people are familiar with the M-80 firecracker. The designation delineates increasing size and powder charge, including M-100, M-250 and continuing to M-1000.
Troopers found dozens of the completed devices and took them to a secure area for destruction.
Authorities issued a summons to the homeowners to appear in court at a later date.
