JACKSON, MI – From two Munith men being arrested in connection with an organized plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, to a Jackson-area factory shutting down due to a COVID-19 outbreak, a lot has been going on in the Jackson area.

Here are some headlines you might have missed.

$10 million bond set for Munith men arrested in plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

Two Munith men arrested in an alleged plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and potentially kill other state officials in an effort to overturn the government were arraigned in Jackson County Thursday afternoon.

Pete Musico, 42, and Joseph Morrison, 26, were arraigned Oct. 8 on multiple felony charges connected to an alleged plot to kidnap, put on trial and execute Whitmer that was investigated by Michigan State Police and the FBI.

Coronavirus outbreak temporarily closes Jackson-area factory

Brooklyn Products International Inc. has temporarily closed due to employees testing positive for COVID-19, company officials said.

People who were at the business during the week of Sept. 30 need to self-monitor for symptoms of the coronavirus. The factory is working with the Jackson County Health Department to find people who were potentially exposed, according to a company news release.

Jackson man in critical condition after being shot multiple times, police say

A Jackson man is in critical condition after being shot multiple times Tuesday afternoon in a south Jackson neighborhood, police said.

Officers were called to the reported shooting at 3:08 p.m. Oct. 6, in the 500 block of McNeal Street where they found a man, who was bleeding, on the on the ground.

Hail, lightening and rain hasn’t stopped employees on strike at manufacturers in Jackson and Calhoun counties, who are asking to keep their pension and days off for doctor visits.

Nineteen employees at Miller Tool & Die in Jackson have been on strike since Sept. 17, and 35 employees at Albion Casters have been on strike since Sept. 25. Striking workers are all part of International Association of Machinists Local 435.

Former Jackson Catholic school teacher charged with 6 counts of sexual assault

A former teacher at a Catholic school in Jackson has been arraigned on multiple charges of sexual assault against minors.

Joseph Comperchio, 67, is charged with six felony counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in two different cases in Jackson County District Court.

Coronavirus outbreak identified at Brooklyn American Legion event

Health officials have identified several individuals with COVID-19 stemming from an outbreak at the American Legion post in Brooklyn.

Jackson County Health Department officials announced Sunday, Oct. 4, that “multiple participants” have been diagnosed with COVID-19 after the Queen of Hearts Drawing at the American Legion, Wilber-Bartlett Post 315 on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Horses, chickens die in Jackson County barn fire

Multiple animals died in a barn fire Tuesday.

Fire crews responded to a barn fire around 11:30 a.m., Oct. 6, in the 8000 block of Clough Road, in Tompkins Township, on the northwest side of Jackson County.

Two horses died in the fire, along with numerous chickens, Rives-Tompkins firefighter Mike Hamilton said. Around 11 horses were in the pasture.
