When the off-season started, the Calgary Flames were expected to be one of the busier teams in the NHL. Instead, they’ve done very little, only moving one of their pending unrestricted free agents. Their biggest trade piece is Elias Lindholm, and with Patrice Bergeron moving on in Boston, could he be a fit for the Bruins?
With the Colorado Avalanche, we looked at the three players with the most to prove this upcoming season.
All that and more in this Saturday edition of Evan’s Daily.
Colorado Hockey Now
Every team has players that come into the season with something to prove, and the Avalanche are no different. But who has the most to prove? I picked the 3 Avalanche players that I think have to show the most, but all for very different reasons.
On Saturday, I’ll take a look at Nikolai Kovalenko, and look to set expectations properly for him when he comes to the NHL.
The Jonathan Drouin film room is almost done, and it’s a whopper. 28 clips, and I watched 139 shifts from the new Avalanche forward. Look for that on Sunday as CHN+ content. It’s the first film room for all of the new additions, as the rest will be coming well before camp starts.
NHL Chatter
With the loss of both David Krejci and Patrice Bergeron, things look bleak down the middle for the Boston Bruins. Elias Lindholm would make a lot of sense for them, but what would it cost for them to acquire him? Well, it sounds like one player would have to be involved. You can read that here...
Vladimir Tarasenko signed in Ottawa for 1-year, $5 million, but it sounds like he had better offers. He apparently turned down more money from San Jose, but his real problem was turning down some good long-term offers earlier in the summer.
National Hockey Now
Pittsburgh: The Penguins improved, but it doesn’t seem likely that they’ll be able to change up the core much.
Philadelphia: Former DU forward Bobby Brink is close to making an impact in Philadelphia.
Montreal: Nick Suzuki is one of the more dangerous PK players in the league.
