FRISCO — DeAndre Hopkins is on the free agent market.
With the addition of Brandin Cooks this offseason, the money paid to Michael Gallup last year and the money that will be paid to CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys don’t appear inclined to pay what it would take to sign the Pro Bowl receiver.
Head coach Mike McCarthy was asked about it Thursday.
“I really like the look of our group,’’ McCarthy said. “You know, the vertical speed is definitely…We’ve made improvement there.
“As far as players that are not here, I mean, there’s nothing good that comes out of those answers. Definitely, Hop is a hell of a talent. I had a chance to be around him his first Pro Bowl. I’ve always had respect for him since his rookie year.’’
This and that
McCarthy likes to practice outside on grass as much as possible. But the Cowboys are having issues with the middle of their practice field and were again indoors. McCarthy said the club will have a new field installed next month which will be ready for the team when it returns from training camp in Southern California in August… Second round pick Luke Schoonmaker is wearing a boot on his right foot that has limited his work in these OTAs. The tight end developed a case of plantar fascia while training for the draft and won’t do much in terms of practice until training camp is underway next month…The East-West Shrine Bowl, the longest-running college all-star game, will be played at the Ford Center at The Star on Feb. 1, 2024.
The final word…
…comes from McCarthy.
“At the end of the day, and I believe this. A clean, quick play-call is much better than the perfect, late play-call.’’
