Porsche Reveal Major Shake-Up In Factory Driver Roster - Dailysportscar

With the Porsche factory committed to factory programmes only in the FIA Wec (GTE Pro) and Formula E in 2021 there have been sweeping changes in the factory driver line-up with six drivers leaving the full factory roster, and two new additions.

Whilst Nick Tandy’s departure was already known, the Englishman signed by the factory Corvette team for the 2021 IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship, there will be widespread surprise at the departure from the roster of five other long-time factory drivers: 2015 Le Mans winner and IMSA and WEC Champion Earl Bamber, Patrick Pilet, 2018 Le Mans GTE Pro winner and 2018/19 WEC GT World Drivers Champion Michael Christensen, Sven Müller and Dirk Werner.

Joining the full factory roster are confirmed addition to the Formula E squad Pascal Wehrlein and graduate from the Porsche Young Professional ranking for Austria’s Thomas Preining (below).

Julien Andlauer continues as a Porsche Young Professional with Turkish racer Ayhancan Güven continuing into a second season as a Porsche Junior.

Jaxon Evans is no longer an official Porsche Junior but will race for customer teams in the 911 RSR, among others.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 travel restrictions, Porsche was unable to run its traditional junior selection process in late autumn of this year. Consequently, there is no second Porsche Junior for 2021.

In the World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC), Porsche’s two works-entered Porsche 911 RSR will see Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz again share the #91 car.

The sister #92 sees Kévin Estre joined by 2016 WEC World Champion Neel Jani.

Amongst the customer GT3 programmes Porsche have confirmed the previous announced campaign for Earl Bamber (Team Hardpoint) with works drivers Laurens Vanthoor and Patrick Long also set to compete for customer teams in the GTD class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

In the GT World Challenge Europe, Earl Bamber and Michael Christensen, despite losing works status are confirmed with customer teams with Frédéric Makowiecki also slated to race in the Championship.
