SAIC to open new Innovation Factory Hub in Alabama, US - Army Technology

Science Applications International (SAIC) has announced plans to expand with a new Innovation Factory Hub in Huntsville, Alabama, US.

Development at the company’s second-largest location will support its local customers and allow the US Department of Defense (DoD) to evaluate new technologies.

Further, the new facility will accelerate the delivery of new and modernised systems.

Using an automated, Cloud-hosted toolset, agile practices, and DevSecOps production chains, the company will build, test and deploy first iterations solutions to meet the defence requirements of its customers.

The Huntsvill Innovation Factory Hub will be integrated into SAIC’s existing Innovation Factory network.

The facility will focus on advanced technologies, analysis, experimentation and engineering of digital engineering, as well as modelling, simulation and prototyping capabilities.

SAIC chief technology officer Charles Onstott said: “The Huntsville Innovation Factory Hub is focused on driving Defence modernisation initiatives while addressing the technical challenges associated with DoD multi-domain operations and force modernisation initiatives.

“Our researchers and engineers will leverage digital engineering and agile software development to enable the DoD to rapidly explore and implement innovative technologies, such as big data analytics, artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, and modelling and simulation, focused on improving mission outcomes.”

Phase 1 of the factory’s operation will include fielding of Cloud-based process and tools focused on apps and IT modernisation. The teams are expected to use existing conference areas until hub spaces are ready.

Using SAIC’s Odyssey Drive facility, the next phases will incorporate digital engineering, data analytics and modelling and simulation cloud-based tools.

Hub spaces of the factory are scheduled to conclude by next year.

The Innovation Factory will rely on partner companies including start-ups, commercial partners and the federal government.

Once completed, the Huntsville Innovation Factory Hub will operate with SAIC’s Innovation Factories located in Virginia, and Lowell, Massachusetts at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML) Research Institute in California, and the Capital Factory in Texas.
