It’s only fitting that a football player as well-rounded as Mitch Leigber found his complete college package.
The Laguna Hills senior committed to Stanford on Saturday, giving the Cardinal a third high-profile player from Orange County in their past two recruiting classes.
Leigber (6-1, 200) said he committed to the Pac-12 school for several reasons.
“I picked Stanford because they are an outstanding academic school and have a strong football program,” he said. “Also, the opportunity to play for coach (David) Shaw and (defensive backs) coach (Duane) Akina was huge for me.”
Akina notably coached Ravens All-Pro safety Earl Thomas at Texas before arriving at Stanford.
Leigber plays several positions for Laguna Hills (5-6 in 2019).
He lines up at running back, wide receiver and safety. Stanford recruited the first-team All-County defensive back to play safety.
Last season, Leigber led the Hawks in tackles (109), interceptions (four), rushing (963 yards), receiving (32 catches for 510 yards) and touchdowns (23). He was the Sea View League co-defensive player of the year honor but transitions with the Hawks this season to the Pacific Coast League.
Stanford signed Corona del Mar receiver John Humphreys and Mission Viejo defensive end Lance Keneley to help highlight its 2020 recruiting class.
