If you want to impress her, don’t take her to the Cheesecake Factory.
Despite its delectable avocado egg rolls and traditional strawberry cheesecake, the popular chain eatery topped a contentious list of the worst first date spots that has sparked backlash online.
“First of all, what the hell’s wrong with Cheesecake Factory?” exclaimed TV personality Stephen A. Smith on his radio show. “Ain’t nothing wrong with the Cheesecake Factory.”
Boston radio host Bob Bronson, of WROR, also drafted a blog post “in defense” of the restaurant, touting its impressive selection of dishes, “fantastic” bread and hallmark cheesecake for dessert.
Meanwhile, comedian Tim Young told Fox News that the people who don’t like the Cheesecake Factory “are lying.”
“Nearly everyone I know who has lived by a Cheesecake Factory has either taken a date there or celebrated something nice at the establishment,” he explained.
“It’s fancy without being fancy, it’s over the top but not gaudy, and it makes us normal people feel nice without paying the price of a typical white tablecloth restaurant.”
The ranking came days after a viral TikTok showed a woman refusing to get out of her date’s car when he pulled up to a Cheesecake Factory earlier this month.
“Who takes someone that looks like this to a chain restaurant?” the woman, Monique Santos, said in the clip, which amassed over 8 million views.
“Look at me, I cannot go in Cheesecake Factory. I will die,” she added.
On the list of 30 first date no-gos, Cheesecake Factory was trailed by American franchises Applebees, Chili’s, Chipotle and Olive Garden.
While it is unclear who penned the docket, they also denounced “any fast food chains,” alongside Buffalo Wild Wings, Wingstop, Red Lobster, IHOP, Denny’s, Starbucks or Waffle House.
More broadly, coffee, drinks or ice cream dates are off the table, as are nightclubs, bowling alleys, the movies, church, sports events and “somewhere that requires a long drive.”
Going to their date’s house or attending a family function are also off limits, as is hitting the gym together, despite a trend of Gen Z and millennial singles opting for sober physical activity for a first date over grabbing a drink.
After circulating online, the list sparked raucous debate, with some suggesting the bachelorettes should just “stay home.”
“I strongly disagree,” one critic commented on Instagram. “It ain’t about where they take you it’s bout the vibe and conversation and if you’re [sic] enjoying your time with that person.”
“These women will be single forever,” another disgruntled user wrote.
Fellow restaurant chains, however, rejoiced when they didn’t make the cut.
“We’re in the clear,” Shake Shack wrote on Instagram.
“Ya’ll know where to go now,” the official Dave and Busters account added.
“So you’re telling us there’s a chance,” 7-Eleven chimed in.
“We’re more of a third date vibe,” chirped Popeyes.
Meanwhile, the list’s worst offenders clapped back, while even the Cheesecake Factory joined in on the harmless fun, posting a humorous clip to X.
“Who hurt u???” Chili’s quipped on Instagram.
“If she’s too good for waffle house 🚩🚩🚩🚩,” Waffle House snarked.
“Do they not know pancakes are a love language?” IHOP wrote.
