The start of the NFL’s free agency period begins in just a few days. On Monday, pending free agents from across the league can start speaking with new suitors.

In light of that, CBS Sports rolled through each team in the NFL and named a “free agent fit” for them all. For the Bills, it’s a bit of a controversial one.

Undoubtedly talented, Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski is matched with the Bills.

Here’s the breakdown:

The Bills could use another pass-catching option at tight end to pair with Dawson Knox — and Gronkowski seems to be the ideal fit. Emmanuel Sanders and Isaiah McKenzie are free agents, leaving a void at wide receiver so the Bills could get in the market there.

Buffalo could improve its already impressive third-down offense (third in NFL) and red zone offense (seventh in NFL) with the addition of Gronkowski, who had 55 catches for 802 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games last year. In addition to his run-blocking ability, Gronkowski is the veteran leader a young Bills team needs to get over the hump and to the Super Bowl.

On the field, there is little reason to dislike the idea of Gronkowski in Buffalo. The 33-year-old showed in 2021 he’s still got it.

However, the future Hall of Famer and Buffalo native is a controversial figure to his hometown.

There’s still that whole cheap shot on cornerback Tre’Davious White to consider.

However, if the move helps the Bills win their first Super Bowl–Buffalo could forgive and forget.

What a potential “Gronk” connection might come down to is the finances.

Currently Spotrac estimates Gronkowski’s value at $9.5 million per year. That might be a little high, but the Bills will have to find some more salary cap space in order to bring Gronkowski on board. The team is only slightly over the salary cap.

Not to mention, the Bills will also want to sign other free agents, including some of their own. Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane has some more salary cap work to do.

While the market has yet to open in free agency, reports have already surfaced that the Bills do have interest in Gronkowski for the second-straight offseason.
