AUSTIN — On Monday, a new nonprofit organization pledged to pay all Texas scholarship offensive linemen $50,000 per year. In exchange, each Longhorn lineman will grant Horns with Heart access to utilize their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) and participate in charitable causes.
The entity, founded by six Texas alumni, eventually plans to extend its reach to other positions. But “The Pancake Factory” will be its first official initiative.
“The Pancake Factory program is the first initiative for Horns with Heart, but the aim is to target many more player-focused charitable programs in the weeks and months to come for other football position groups and across the wide array of different University of Texas athletic programs,” Horns with Heart stated in its press release. “The goal is to make these programs sustainably funded on a yearly basis into perpetuity.”
Horns with Heart will offer a chance to join the program to every eligible scholarship offensive lineman at Texas starting Aug. 1, 2022. Any players sign deals will be obligated to make charitable appearances and “bring awareness to worthy causes that impact their local communities.”
News of this latest endeavor arrived just a week after the launch of the Clark Field Collective, another new NIL entity that has so far raised $10 million in order to sign deals with Texas athletes for “Name, Image and Likeness activities with the ultimate goal of having the largest dedicated fund in the country for college athletes.”
