2021 four-star quarterback Kaidon Salter committed to the Tennessee Vols back in May when UT recruiting was absolutely on fire.
Salter, 6-foot-2/185 lbs from Cedar Hill, TX, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 13 player in the state of Texas and the No. 3 dual-threat quarterback in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 76 overall player in the nation.
The Texas native is described by 247Sports midland region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks as a player with “good downfield arm strength with above average short-to-intermediate velocity”. Brooks also notes that Salter is “dangerous in the scramble drill” and is “very mobile and throws well on the move”.
While it’s obvious from Brooks’ scouting report that Salter can make a lot of plays with his legs, he’s not a run-first quarterback. The 247Sports recruiting analyst says Salter is a “pass-first quarterback, but definitely athletic enough to hurt defenses with his legs”.

It’s not just Salter’s on-field abilities that make him a great fit at Tennessee. Attitude wise, Salter is a perfect fit for Jeremy Pruitt’s culture at UT.
“From tournament one in Miami to the last tournament we got to play right before the shutdown in March, he was our biggest leader, vocal leader, leader by example — all of those things — from start to finish,” said Salter’s 7-on-7 coach Joey Moss recently to 247Sports.
On-field abilities don’t mean a whole lot in the SEC unless a player has the right attitude. Being a good leader and leading by example are incredibly important attributes that sometimes get overlooked by fans.
Fortunately for Tennessee, Salter has the perfect combination of physical talent and leadership skills to be a tremendous player on Rocky Top for the next several years.
