Scoular identifies Idaho location for barley protein factory - FeedNavigator.com

The Omaha, Nebraska based Scoular will build a 15,000-square-foot facility to manufacture the product, a barley protein concentrate (BPC), for use in aquaculture feed and pet food.

Scoular, which has 120 offices across North America, South America and Asia and is the 66th largest corporation in the US, describes itself as a provider orf global and diverse supply chain solutions for end-users and suppliers of grain, feed ingredients and food ingredients.

Its new factory will be constructed on four acres south of Scoular’s existing livestock feed ingredients facility in Jerome. The operation is expected to create 13 jobs and begin manufacturing in May 2021.

It said Jerome in south-central Idaho was chosen because of its proximity to its valued grain producer customers and end markets for the manufactured products - Idaho is the leading state for barley production in the US.

Scoular also operates several grain handling facilities in that US state.

Initially, the new manufacturing plant is projected to process 1.9m bushels of barley annually, with capacity projected to expand over the next several years. A high-energy liquid feed supplement for cattle feeders will be co-produced, said the company.

Licencing deal

In June, Scoular and Montana Microbial Products (MMP) announced that they had entered into an exclusive licensing agreement to produce and sell the BPC product in North America and in Asian markets.

The protein product is produced from non-GMO barley without using harsh chemicals or solvents.
