CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we invite everyone to the Cole Park Pier and Plaza this weekend to show how we can all use the great outdoors to improve our physical and mental well-being as we create awareness about this critical issue. Running and walking, especially done in nature, are excellent ways to reduce stress and depression.
The Buc Days Children’s Parade will take place this Saturday, May 14, along The Water’s Edge. All “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” classes, along with the run/walk events, will be held at the new Cole Park Pier and Plaza, located at 2600 Ocean Drive.
Sign up today for the “Safe Fun-Fit Mental and Physical Awareness Month 5K/10K” event, sponsored by State Representative Todd Hunter and the City of Corpus Christi, starting at 7:30 a.m. at Cole Park Pier.
Join the Walk & Talk for “Mental & Physical Health Awareness Month” offered from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at the Cole Park Pier. Therapist Tim Tate, along with other therapists and licensed counselors, will answer individuals’ questions related to mental health while they join them on the walk.
Get your body moving with our free ‘Back to Basics Fitness,’ Yoga and Zumba classes which will be held at the Cole Park Plaza next to the pier set against our scenic Bayfront. All participants receive a punch card to record each Saturday attended. A completed punch card is eligible for a prize.
The Fitness Lane route will begin at Cole Park Pier and continue within the park. Walk, jog, run, or bike along the event’s designated 1.5-mile fitness lane (one way). Our community partner, H-E-B, is providing fruit and water for all participants.
In coordination with Victor Betancourt of VFit Productions and the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, the City offers “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” exercise and wellness events for ages eight and older, of all abilities and skill levels, on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The class schedule is available online.
Register Online for fitness classes, 5K/10K, or Walk & Talk at www.cctexas.com/safefunfit. Class sessions are limited to 30 participants per class. Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat and water, as appropriate, for their workout.
