Tanguy Ndombele: Tottenham midfielder missed Arsenal game despite being fit - The Athletic

Tanguy Ndombele was available for Sunday’s game against Arsenal but simply not selected by Nuno Espirito Santo, The Athletic understands.

It had been assumed that Ndombele wasn’t yet fully fit when Nuno said after the game that: “Tanguy is not with us today. He is not injured but we consider it is not yet the moment for him to be part of the game.”

But Ndombele had trained leading up to the game after a period of paternity leave and was available. Instead, he was not even named among the substitutes, and has not played a minute of Spurs’ pre-season friendlies despite not being in the France squad for Euro 2020.

Ndombele is now weighing up his options and will see what the situation is come the end of August, by which time Spurs will have played their first three Premier League matches of the season.

He joined Tottenham for a club-record fee of around £55 million two years ago on wages of £200,000 a week. That high salary reduces the number of clubs that could afford him, and Spurs would still like to make the move a success, but so far Ndombele’s moments of brilliance have gone alongside periods of injury and inconsistency.
