Entering the season, the Seahawks’ offense was seen as a potentially huge problem for opponents.

It all starts with a passing game that is led by perennial MVP candidate Russell Wilson, includes his top receivers in Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, and bolstered by a stacked tight end room featuring Greg Olsen, Will Dissly and Jacob Hollister. Then there’s the running game, which has two 1,000-yard rushers in Chris Carson and Carlos Hyde plus Wilson, a threat on his own.
Through two weeks, it also appears that Wilson has a new receiver he’s growing to trust a lot in rookie Freddie Swain, a sixth-round pick.
Swain caught his first NFL pass in Week 1 for 17 yards and he followed that up with his first career touchdown in Week 2.

On The Pete Carroll Show with 710 ESPN Seattle’s Danny and Gallant on Monday morning (listen here), the Seahawks head coach said he and his staff couldn’t be happier with the rookie from Florida.
“He’s going to keep playing. He’s doing everything well. He’s really a good player in our system,” Carroll said.
That was evident on Swain’s touchdown catch, which had just as much to do with what he did after he caught the pass as before it. In fact, Swain looked so much on the play like Lockett, maybe the prototypical receiver for Seattle’s system, that just about everybody who watches the Seahawks closely thought it was the veteran No. 1 receiver who had scored the touchdown at first – including Steve Raible, the longtime voice of the Seahawks.
Carroll praised Swain for picking up what he needs to learn so quickly.
“It’s amazing how much he’s learned and how fast he’s learned it. He really has just captured the coaches and they know they can trust him,” he said. “The same opinion is held by the special teams coaches and that’s when you know you’ve got a guy that’s a really good competitor. He’s just been able to pick stuff up and he gets it, so the game comes really comfortably to him.”
Swain’s playing style fits well on Seattle’s roster, Carroll added.
“With the guys that we have, Freddie could have a big impact with the matchups that he gets and the opportunities that he gets,” he said. “That (touchdown) was a great example of it.”
