After having such an impressive season for the Thunder, there will be no shortage of interest in Paul from teams around the NBA. While age is a concern some have, a team with a short-term goal of winning a championship like the Bucks in 2021 make plenty of sense.
When asked about the potential fit for Paul with the Bucks, McHale explained on SiriusXM NBA Radio that the legendary point guard would sacrifice whatever it took to win a championship — making him an ideal fit.
A particular area of need the Bucks face is a lack of efficient perimeter playmaking ability as well as shot creation. Both are areas where Paul excels and were vital in the Thunder overachieving relative to the expectations many had for them.
Having a ball handler like Paul would bring the most out of Antetokounmpo’s off-ball abilities and would make things much easier on him offensively. Teams would have to stop Paul’s elite passing from getting to an incredible athlete with an insane catch-radius.
There are some areas where Paul would help without having to dominate the ball. He is still a highly effective defensive player that has great instincts. Additionally, he’s more than capable of providing an off-ball offensive impact with his shooting.
It’s important to note, Paul provides real leadership and guidance for an offense. He serves almost as a coach on the court. That type of influence helps the team as a whole and brings the best out of everyone while providing much needed help for a star talent.
Overall, if the Milwaukee Bucks could find a way to pull off a trade for Chris Paul, it would provide Giannis Antetokounmpo a much-needed boost in areas that have held the team back.
