SHERMAN, Tex. (KXII) - Texas Instruments has announced a multi-year plan Wednesday to close down two North Texas factories over the next three to five years.
Channels and Public Relations manager Nicole Bernard says the company is planning on closing both the Sherman and one of the Dallas factories between 2023 and 2025.
Bernard says the company is choosing to focus on 300-millimeter advanced analog wafer technology. They say the Sherman factory does not have the scale, infrastructure and efficiency to be upgraded from 150-millimeter production.
Bernard says the Sherman factory will continue to operate as usual until the end of the transition. TI says they plan on offering many employees jobs in other Dallas-area manufacturing sites or severance packages based on their positions.
In 2019, TI announced plans to build a new 300-millimeter factory at their existing site in Richardson, Texas.
