The Greater Lowell Tech boys soccer team wrapped up a terrific regular season Saturday with a 1-1 tie with St. Mary’s of Lynn.
David Ospina found the back of the net for the Gryphons. Also starring for Greater Lowell were Luiggi Ferreira and goalkeeper Joao Silva, who made seven saves. Greater Lowell (11-4-3) will host Lynn Tech on Tuesday at 5 p.m. in the semifinal of the State Vocational Tournament.
St. John’s Prep 4, Central Catholic 0: The Raiders, who enjoyed a successful regular season, were blanked by their Catholic school counterparts on St. John’s Prep’s Senior Day in Danvers. St. John’s Prep went unbeaten (17-0-1) heading into the state tournament.
Billerica 0, Wilmington 0: The Indians of the MVC and Wildcats of the Middlesex League played to a standstill in Wilmington. For Billerica, earning another shutout was Riz Singh, who rejected five shots.
Crew
The Lowell High rowing team will host the MPSRA Fall Championships on Sunday on the Merrimack River. are tomorrow! It will be the last race of the fall season for the Red Raiders and many other teams.
Girls soccer
Newburyport 6, Tewksbury 0: The Redmen ran into a buzzsaw during a non-league encounter. Newburyport’s Deirdre McElhinney scored once and set up three other goals as the team ended the regular season 16-1.
MIAA tournaments
Early next week is an exciting time for high school sports fans. The MIAA will release its tournament fields and brackets in several sports.
On Monday, the football (10 a.m.) and girls volleyball (1 p.m.) pairings will be released. On Tuesday, the field hockey (1 p.m.) pairings are set to be announced. On Wednesday, the boys and girls soccer pairings will be released at 1 p.m.
Hall of Fame
The Lowell High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct five new members on Thursday, Nov. 17 at Lenzi’s in Dracut.
A cocktail hour will be held from 6-7 p.m., with dinner to follow at 7 p.m.
Set for induction are: 26-year boys swim coach Rick Battistini; 2008 graduate Daniel Capra (football, track, baseball); 1982 grad Anne Farley (basketball, softball); 1956 grad Charlie Theokos (football); and 2008 grad Kristina Tobin (soccer, indoor track, outdoor track).
