New Canes forward Josh Leivo met remotely with the media to talk about why he signed with the Hurricanes and what he thinks about the team moving forward.

josh, you're good to go. Can you hear me now? Yep. Perfect. Yeah, Good to go. All right, cool. We'll take questions for josh. Just please raise your hand first. Go ahead. Corey, josh, Welcome to rally. Um, I just wanted to ask you, uh, you know what, what went into your decision? You know, you've played in Canada your whole career. So you kind of your first trek down to the U. S. Side of things. Uh, and also you had, it seems like some success against the hurricanes in your career. Did that, did that factor into your decision? Ah Yeah. You know what, um, the interest with Carolina wanting me, um, obviously was appealing. Um, I've heard nothing but great things with the organization now. It's turned the other way. Um, the coach, I've heard nothing but great things. Um the group of guys I know a couple who who just come and then Gardner have known and they've said nothing but good thing. So all around it was exciting and almost an easy decision. Um, I've played in Canada the whole time and you know what a think it's time for a little change. We're always a smaller town, but the fan base is unbelievable. So I think all around it, it's pretty easy to decide to come here. Shit. Yeah, josh when, when you signed here, don what else said that? He thought you would fit the system very well. Just talk a little bit about your style. Why that might be that you would fit the system. Well, one other thing too, I guess 17 has always been your favorite number, I guess. You know, that one's kinda out in Carolina. So yeah, my style. Uh, I think I escaped pretty well. Um, when I first came in the league, it wasn't that good, but I think I managed to pick that up. I'm going to give it my all every shift. Um, get in on that floor check disrupt a lot of parks. I finally got a good hockey sense to help create with whoever I'm playing with. I'm an easy going claire, you're not going to see something really fancy. But you know what? I hope my work shows. Um, I've had some ups and downs years and I'm just looking to get in on a team where you know, I'm appreciated fully and I can, I can show what I got. Uh, I think this is a good group for it. Um, there's a lot of offense and, and still defense as well. So, Um, I'm excited for this opportunity to play for this team and then I chose 41 I believe because 17 is taken and uh, I got no complaints with that. I, I just added both my, my son's birthday's together and I was 41, so tom Hi josh, Just, just looking at the hurricanes. They made quite a bit of changes in the off season to the supporting cast, including yourself. What do you think about basically? I guess the team they have that they want their finished first in a pretty good division last year. What do you think about the team you're joining right now? Yeah, I mean when we would make playoffs, I had Carolina coming out of it um into the finals last year. I think they weren't underappreciated and just I think unlucky. Um they faced a good team and they lost, which is what the playoffs is. But I'm excited. Uh I said last year I want to go to a team that wins is unfortunate. We weren't good um good group of guys and everything, but you see a lot of promise here, Young group, young core. Uh, I'm not going to be pushing it. I'm just gonna try to fit in and, and do my part. Um, I think that's what they want. So it's exciting, especially seeing the fan base here, I think over the last couple of years, how it's developed and it's just awesome to see that and, and be a part of it this year. Chip Yeah, Josh. I was looking at one of the interviews you've done before and um, I think I read or saw that your dad played hockey baby. He got, you started in the sport. And is it true that he had 500 penalty minutes? Its level of hockey that he played. Yeah, that's the rumor in his junior eight days. He was a little bit of a psycho, but he still had a little bit of skill to play with it. So, um, the story is that my grandmother would be there for the first and when he saw she wasn't there, he could go and play old school hockey the way I think he enjoyed it. So, uh, the 500 is definitely, uh, says it's a true story. So I got to go with it, but I do not like to see myself the way he played, I like to, to be a little more offensive and, and uh, uh, not the aggressive type, the way he was, Corey. Gosh, I was just wondering if it appealed to you that, that Rod seems willing to try guys that maybe aren't top six forwards on the power play. I know you played on the power play quite a bit, I think in Vancouver. Um, and in Toronto, some to, did that appeal to you the chance that you can, you can earn your spot in special teams to outside of outside of just five on five definitely. I find them really effective on the power play. May not get, uh, may not show all the time, but I believe I create chances. Um, like I said, I feel like I got a good hockey sense and, and, and I'm um, well prepared to play on the power play. I'm open to playing whatever. I've never played penalty kill, but I don't know, maybe, maybe down the road down this year. I'll see myself on that. But I'm coming in just to work hard and uh, whatever coach wants, I can, uh, I can try my best to do what he's asking. Um, power play obviously is, is in my eyes to hopefully be on it and uh, just starts at camp showing the work ethic. All right. Thanks josh. Thanks. Everyone. Access, Yeah.
