Worn Again opens R&D factory in the United Kingdom to scale up its technology

Worn Again scales up. The company piloted by Cindy Rhoades which specializes in recovering polyester and cotton fibers from textile waste has launched an R&D factory in theUnited Kingdom with the aim of scaling its technology to implement it in the entire industry.

“The purpose of the pilot is to continue generating data that will validate the process steps of separating and decontaminating PET polymer from textiles so that we can recapture raw materials in these textiles and get them back into circulation,” says Rhoades.

Until now, Worn Again was in a pre-industrial stage. The company has been working for eight years to recover polyester and cotton, among other materials and it wasn’t until now that it developed a strategy to gain volume.

The new factory will provide the company with the ability to improve the recycling process and the reproduction of raw materials. From this, Worn Again will reproduce new recycled materials: polyester resin and cellulose pulp. “It is not a new material, it is an existing resource, which is exactly what we know the industry is after in terms of large-scale industrial solutions,” says Rhodes.
